I see that the ATL Conference featured<a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/education\/6523323.stm\"> a moan about &#8216;Edu-babble&#8217;<\/a> yesterday. At last weekend&#8217;s NATE Conference there was some grumbling about &#8216;affordance&#8217;. It doesn&#8217;t even feature in the free online dictionaries I use most, such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chambersharrap.co.uk\/chambers\/chref\/chref.py\/main\">Chambers<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.m-w.com\">Mirriam-Webster<\/a>. The ever-useful <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Affordance\">Wikipedia<\/a> tells me that &#8216;an Affordance is an action that an individual can potentially perform in their environment&#8217; and that it dates from 1977. <\/p>\n<p>Do we real need this word?
