'Spectacular' holiday advertisement in the Guardian on 9 April<\/figcaption><\/figure>Thanks to the excellent <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/substuff\">Substuff<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/theguardian\/2011\/apr\/12\/beer-tearjerker-scillies\">Peter Melville<\/a> in today&#8217;s Guardian for these comic &#8211; and tragi-comic &#8211; clangers from two of our finest quality broadsheets. The <em>Grauniad<\/em> retains its (now surely undeserved) reputation for typographical infelicities &#8211; but the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/wirecopy\/8445727\/Gang-members-jailed-for-shooting-dead-innocent-girl-dead-in-bungled-revenge-attack.html\">Telegraph<\/a>, that home of grammatical rectitude and <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/today\/hi\/today\/newsid_8983000\/8983697.stm\">Simon Heffer<\/a>? What will become of us? And with the <em>Telegraph&#8217;s<\/em> recent <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.literaryconnections.co.uk\/?p=721\">crime against chidren<\/a> still fresh in our minds! <\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;You couldn&#8217;t make it up&#8217; update, 14 April<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/theguardian\/2011\/apr\/14\/corrections-clarifications\">Today&#8217;s Guardian<\/a> carries a confession about their own report on the trial that featured in the <em>Telegraph<\/em> article shown here:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In early editions, the photo caption that accompanied a report of the jailing for life of two members of an east London street gang convicted of the murder of a girl of 16, Agnes Sina-Inakoju, contained the solecism that she &#8220;died 36 hours after being killed&#8221;.
