In response to a <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.literaryconnections.co.uk\/?p=76\">recent post about poetry and sport<\/a>, there was a question about how many feet would be required for poems about three-legged racers. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.englishandict.co.uk\/about.html#Chris\">Chris Warren<\/a>, already on a trip to Japan, needed no incentive to write haiku but took this as a prompt to share some three-liners with me. Here are some tasters &#8211; though none are about sport. This was written &#8216;after a visit to a specially beautiful Zen temple stone garden&#8217;: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Raked gravel ripples<br \/>\nSpread out from the grey stone:<br \/>\nWave-forms of silence\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And these show Chris, as he says, &#8216;in full <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Matsuo_Bash%C5%8D\">Basho<\/a> mood&#8217;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>New-leaf-green maple<br \/>\nBacklit by sunlight &#8230; and one<br \/>\ntiny bird on the branch<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>A black crow cries &#8216;Wha?&#8217;<br \/>\nOutside my window. Without<br \/>\nHeeding my reply.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The last one was written &#8216;after an exotic trip with some Japanese Buddhist friends to a temple in the mountains&#8217;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Mountain temple bell<br \/>\nHollow sound through green pine woods<br \/>\nThe whisper of streams<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Look out for more, either here or on our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.englishandict.co.uk\/\">English and ICT site<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p><em>All poems here by and &copy; Chris Warren.
